Greetings! Students will take their Chapter 7 Test tomorrow, February 1. This is quite a challenging test, however the study guide that students received is very comprehensive and helpful. Students should be sure to answer all of the questions on the study guide, using both the book and the activities (especially Global Connections!) to help them. Please contact me through my form on the home page if you have any questions regarding the test or anything else! Good luck studying tonight!
Well, believe it or not, we are already HALFWAY through the school year! As we begin the third marking period, it is very important to reiterate the importance of turning one's work in on time, every time. Turning work in on time is the biggest predictor of student success for two reasons: (1) student work, although 30% of the weighted grade, makes up the bulk of what we do on a daily basis, and (2) even more importantly, all assignments are designed to prepare students for their end-of-unit assessments, which make up 70% of one's grade. Thus, if the work is not done, this can be thought of as a "double whammy," resulting in a low assignment grade and a low assessment grade.
Because of this, I have decided that I will only be accepting late work for a unit until the day we take the test for that unit. Work done after this point does nothing to help a student prepare for the assessment of what they learned, and they are then doing work that is so old that they often forget the point and procedure. It is important that we instill a good work ethic in our students, and utilizing a more stringent late work policy--one that is more reflective of the "real world" as well--will help to make that a reality. Have a wonderful weekend and let's make the second half of the year even better than the first! Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a great start!
Tomorrow we will have our chapter 5 test. Students should review their study guides to make sure they are familiar with all of the concepts that will be tested. This study guide is very comprehensive. They can also use the study guide key to help them review. Also, please note that the end of the second marking period (which is also the end of the first semester) will be next Friday, January 20. Students will need to have all missing work turned into me before this day! I am only accepting late work since the holiday break, since I allowed time to turn in the earlier missing work prior to break. All missing work is shown as a zero on the Parent Portal. The assignments can all be found under the Classroom Resources tab of my website. These assignments can be printed from home and downloaded. Best wishes for a great end of the second marking period! |
