Greetings! We will have our next test on Friday. This test will cover the Europe and Russia Mapping Lab that we've been working on for the past week. Students were given a study guide today and this will help tremendously in preparing for the test. It will also be collected for a grade. Our next unit will be on the European Union, which is Chapter 14 in our textbook. I hope everyone has a great week!
Greetings!
To culminate our current chapter on migration to the United States, we are doing a family heritage project. You can access the information for this on my Classroom Resources tab. After the students present all of their projects, we will wrap up with a Family Heritage Celebration Day for which I am encouraging students to bring in food from their country of origin. If you would like to help with this celebration day during your student's hour or in any way possible, please e-mail me at sj Greetings! Students will take their Chapter 7 Test tomorrow, February 1. This is quite a challenging test, however the study guide that students received is very comprehensive and helpful. Students should be sure to answer all of the questions on the study guide, using both the book and the activities (especially Global Connections!) to help them. Please contact me through my form on the home page if you have any questions regarding the test or anything else! Good luck studying tonight!
Well, believe it or not, we are already HALFWAY through the school year! As we begin the third marking period, it is very important to reiterate the importance of turning one's work in on time, every time. Turning work in on time is the biggest predictor of student success for two reasons: (1) student work, although 30% of the weighted grade, makes up the bulk of what we do on a daily basis, and (2) even more importantly, all assignments are designed to prepare students for their end-of-unit assessments, which make up 70% of one's grade. Thus, if the work is not done, this can be thought of as a "double whammy," resulting in a low assignment grade and a low assessment grade.
Because of this, I have decided that I will only be accepting late work for a unit until the day we take the test for that unit. Work done after this point does nothing to help a student prepare for the assessment of what they learned, and they are then doing work that is so old that they often forget the point and procedure. It is important that we instill a good work ethic in our students, and utilizing a more stringent late work policy--one that is more reflective of the "real world" as well--will help to make that a reality. Have a wonderful weekend and let's make the second half of the year even better than the first! Happy New Year! I hope your year is off to a great start!
Tomorrow we will have our chapter 5 test. Students should review their study guides to make sure they are familiar with all of the concepts that will be tested. This study guide is very comprehensive. They can also use the study guide key to help them review. Also, please note that the end of the second marking period (which is also the end of the first semester) will be next Friday, January 20. Students will need to have all missing work turned into me before this day! I am only accepting late work since the holiday break, since I allowed time to turn in the earlier missing work prior to break. All missing work is shown as a zero on the Parent Portal. The assignments can all be found under the Classroom Resources tab of my website. These assignments can be printed from home and downloaded. Best wishes for a great end of the second marking period! I just wanted to put out a notice that our Chapter 3 Test will take place tomorrow. Students should complete their study guides this evening and then review them for the test. This is a challenging test, but the study guide is excellent preparation for it. Students should be very familiar with the map on page 56 in their book (referenced in part 2 of the study guide). They should also be very familiar with at least one region in Canada; the chart at the end of their study guide is very helpful for this. There will be a writing portion of the test in which students will need to demonstrate an excellent command of the different elements of their chart for one region of Canada.
Like I have done previously, I am posting a copy of my study guide on my website. It will be listed under "Classroom Resources" under Chapter 3. Good luck studying! :) Greetings! It is hard to believe, but the end of the marking period is already fast approaching! Friday, November 4 is the last day of the first marking period. This means a couple of important things: 1. Our Chapter 2 Test will take place on Thursday. Below you will find a copy of the answer key for the test. Please use this to review for the test. 2. All missing assignments must be turned in by the end of the day on Friday. I will be sending home progress reports tomorrow so students will know all assignments they are missing. If the assignment is no longer in the student's binder (which it typically is), extra copies are available under "Classroom Resources." Please note that only assignments from Chapter 2 will be accepted! 3. Friday is also a half-day. If you have any questions about these items, please use my contact form found on my home page. Best wishes studying for your test!
Greetings parents and students! MONDAY is our first test. Please note that this is a change from my last post. The test was originally scheduled for Friday, but I felt that students could use the weekend to study (see my blog post below). Also, Monday will be our first binder organization quiz. Students MUST have ALL of their papers in their binder in the order that I have listed under the Organization tab. Your grade will be based on the extent to which you have all of these papers and in the correct order. Extra copies are available in the classroom or online. Late work for chapter 1 will be accepted until Wednesday, October 2. Please note that all questions for our test are on the Chapter 1 Study Guide. Answers for the study guide can be accessed at the link below. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Have a great weekend!
Greetings! I can't begin to tell everyone how excited I am when I see all the views on my website! It is so great to have this tool to communicate with all of my students and their parents and guardians.
A couple of important reminders:
Wow! What a great first week of school! It was so wonderful to get to know all of you (I think I have everyone's name down, too!). :) I hope that you learned a lot about JMS during our "Bootcamp" week. This next week, we are going to pick up our textbooks, get our supplies organized, learn about all the neat stuff in our books, and discuss Constitution Day, which is September 17th. We will also celebrate a birthday! ;) Have a fun weekend...and GO BLUE!!!!
